What is the Ejaculation Frequency for Optimum Men's Health and Longevity?

The purpose of this article is to provide the differing philosophies and science upon how optimal health, longevity and sexual power may be influenced by ejaculation frequency.

Eastern Philosophy on Ejaculation Frequency and Ejaculation Control

According to the eastern philosophy of Tao formulated over centuries and emphasized over and over again in Taoist literature, a man must preserve and retain his semen in order to enhance his strength, health and longevity. This philosophy believes that men that regulate their ejaculation to a minimum and retain their semen will grow strong and have a clearer mind. Furthermore, this Tao philosophy holds that men who practice ejaculation control will maintain consistently high levels of testosterone, sperm and semen and will have a stronger sexual appetite.

Taoist theory believe that semen retention strengthen the brain as the essential nutrients in semen and related hormones are absorbed by the prostrate whereby they enter the blood stream and circulate throughout the body nourishing all tissues and organs, including the brain. It's a well know medical fact that semen and cerebrospinal fluids consist of the same basic incredients so preserving semen nourishes the brain by making more essential nutrients available to it.

What is the primary underlying premise behind this philosophy? Taoist thought is built upon the primary premise that every body is endowed with a limited supply of primordial energy (chee) and one's lifespan, including sexual lifespan, is determined by (i) the rate at which this energy is used up and (ii) a lifestyle that replenishes and strengthens that energy. As a bit of a man's sexual essence is used with each ejaculation, Tao teaches that ejaculation frequency should be regulated to permit a man's body to rebuild the sexual energy between ejaculations before it is used up again through ejaculation.

The basic objective of Tao philosophy on ejaculation frequency is to increase as much as possible the quantity of life-giving, age-retarding hormones secreted in a man's body during sexual excitement, while at the same time decreasing as much as possible the loss of semen and its related hormones through ejaculation so that those nutrients can be reused by the body to make it stronger.

Tao Recommended Ejaculation Frequency to Increase Lifespan

"A man may attend health and longevity if he practices an ejaculation frequency of twice monthly, or 24 times a year. If at the same time he pays careful attention to proper diet and exercise, he will live a long and healthy life." Sun Simiao

There are different theories among Tao theorists on how frequency should be measured. However as each man is different, we each need to determine for ourselves which level of frequency leaves us most strong and refreshed instead of tired, empty and depressed.

One Tao theorist recommends ejaculation based upon the frequency of intercourse rather than day intervals with ejaculation only 2 or 3 times in 10.

The most respected of the Tao theorist, Sun Simiao, quoted above, recommends ejaculation no more than once every 20 days for men over 50 and no more than once every 100 days for men over 60.

Another Tao theorist suggests ejaculation frequency should be regulated according to the seasons with recommended ejaculations (i) during spring of no more than every 3 days, (ii) twice a month in summer and fall, and (iii) not at all during the cold of winter.

Another Tao theorist more recommends robust men may have more ejaculations than other men but recommends ejaculation control and restrained frequency for both.

Also, as medical evidence suggests that men experience a significant loss of zinc with each ejaculation, eating a food high in zinc after ejaculation is recommended.

A research published by the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health found that after 7 days of not ejaculating, men’s testosterone levels reached 145.7% of the baseline. The interesting thing is that they didn’t observe significant fluctuations from the baseline on days 2 through 5. The research also showed that the peak levels were at day 7

Tao Risks of Too Frequent Ejaculation

When sex is performed with the recommended Tao frequency, it becomes an inexhaustible source of energy, like a well that never runs dry.

However, when ejaculation frequency exceeds the capacity of the body to fully replenish semen, men can experience chronic fatique, low resistance, loss of sexual drive, loss of focus and irritability. Long term excessive ejaculation can cause chronic low zinc conditions which can cause chronic fatique, mental confusion and significant loss of sexual drive.

It is also considered harmful to ejaculate when ill, drunk or gorged with food.

Frequent Sex but Infrequent Ejaculation

Ejaculation control and discipline is not to be confused with frequency of sex. There are significant physiologic. phsycologic and therapeutic benefits to having sex. Frequent sex intercourse maintains a man's interest in the act as well as his capacity to continue indefinitely until his partner is fully satisfied.

Western Thought on Ejaculation Frequency, Ejaculation Frequency and Impact on Testosterone Levels

Much of western medicine and popular culture claim that men naturally replenish their semen supply soon after ejaculation and that the male's capacity for producing semen is virtually limitless.

However western and eastern athletic coaches advise their athletes to not have an ejaculation the same day prior to athletic competition as it is medically well documented that testosterone levels drop immediately after ejaculation and athletic performance is diminished. See how to naturally increase testosterone levels at How to Increase Testosterone Naturally.

Ejaculation Frequency and Prostate Health

An important consideration to men's health is whether there is any relationship between ejaculation frequency and risks to prostate cancer. Michael Leitzmann, published in the 2004 Journal of American Medical Association his research conclusions that "Our results suggest that ejaculation frequency is not related to increased risk of prostate cancer." See Ejaculation Frequency and Subsequent Risk of Prostrate Cancer.

There are studies however which suggest that frequent ejaculations decreases the risk of developing prostate cancer. See a 2008 study from the Harvard Medical School Ejaculation Frequency and Prostate Cancer. An issue remains whether increased ejaculations were performed by men who were healthier and as such had higher sexual activity due to better health and therefore their lower risk of prostate cancer was the result of better health due to diet and exercise and not related to ejaculation frequency.

Rates of prostate cancers vary widely across the world, with South and East Asia detecting much less frequently than in Europe, and especially the United States. This geographic disparity seems to indicate diet and lifestyle may play an important role in prostate cancer risk. As prostate cancer tends to develop in men over the age of fifty, men over fifty are encourage to regular seek medical screening regarding their prostate health.
